Oscar chair by Sergio Rodrigues
[sold]
Designed in 1956 as an homage to the renowned Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, Sergio Rodrigues' Oscar armchair exudes elegance with sinuous lines reminiscent of Brasilia's iconic buildings. The chair, originally commissioned for the São Paulo Jockey Club, mirrors Rodrigues' distinctive style, incorporating independent volumes akin to his earlier Hauner Sofa. The cane backrests and seats gracefully rest on a wooden structure with delicate elements, such as tapered feet and seat support cutouts, showcasing the chair's modern aesthetic.
Ironically, the chair was rejected by the Brazilian Jockey Club in Rio de Janeiro for being "too modern", a testament of Rodrigues’ avant-garde style.
